About Our Vineyard
At our San Diego winery and vineyard, we’ve planted root stock from Sonoma County vines and lovingly tended them with our own hands on our property in Deerhorn Valley. We presently have about two acres of vines, consisting of mature Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and young Zinfandel and Sangiovese. These old world reds are what fare best in our climate. On our steep, eastern-facing hillside vineyard the vines get plenty of sunshine, but struggle in the thin, dry soil, yielding very high-quality grapes.
Each fall, we have a harvest party and, along with our friends, we harvest the grapes in a single day, then crush them and begin the initial fermentation in our barn. Over the next few months, we complete the fermentation, monitor and adjust the balance of the wines, rack the wines, and place them into oak or stainless steel containers to begin aging. When the time is right, we bottle the wines, cork and label the bottles (still all at our own facility), let it age some more in the bottles, and then get the wines to market. We do everything ourselves -- trusting no one else to get it "done right."
Our vineyard is located 31 miles from downtown San Diego:
